Creating a good ad - part 3
First, if you haven’t read my articles about The Huge Mistake That Business Owners Make When Creating An Ad and How To Create Killer Ads Using The Bar Test you probably want to start with those trust me they are worth it.
Last time we went through the bar test. And how to generally sound when writing your ads. Now we are going to the meat and bones of your ads. We are going to learn what you should write to make your ads sell.
Let’s get right into it.
The Headline Trick.
We have a priority list when we make ads.
Without a doubt, your headline should be on top of that list. It is the only thing between your reader reading your ad or ignoring it completely.
When you look around your headlines might be.
Car cleaning company.
Or
Empowering solutions
Or
We just got a new facility
This is not good. The headline is the hook, it is supposed to say something that will make the reader read the ad. Nobody cares about your company name, nobody cares about your empowering solutions. All people care about is WIFM: What’s In It
For Me.
So how do we make the value clear in ou headlines?
We use the headline trick.
Ask yourself if you had a blank piece of paper with your headline and a phone number would you get calls?
Let’s take some examples.
If your headline was:
Glass Doctor
Would you get sales? NO.
Now if your headline was.
If you have scratches on your window you don’t have to waste money on a new one, we will polish your window till it is as good as new.
This will get some calls. Because this talks to the client directly and addresses their problem.
“The Power Of Subtraction”
After you’re done writing your ad with every sentence ask yourself what does this do?
If you are saying something the reader already knows: Delete it
If you are only talking about yourself: Delete it
If you are saying something confusing: Delete it
If you are talking about helping the community Delete it
Everything that is not making the reader want to buy your product more should be deleted.
Use these strategies when writing your next ad.
This has been a bit of a longer one.
In the next article, we're going to delve deeper into How to create your offer. Specifically How To Make An RSO - a Rock Solid Offer.
